Black Jezebel (Pieridae Pierinae Delias aglaja - Linnaeus, 1767)

Taken on the wing in North Point, Hong Kong at the end of December, 1998,  though observed nectaring from Schefflera octophylla from the beginning of November and into January, 1999.  A female was observed on Nov. 24, 1999, laying eggs on Dendrotrophe frutescens on both leaf surfaces.

There were about a dozen leaves with similar egg masses.
The eggs were 0.6 mm / 0.025 inch diameter and
1.7 mm / 0.07 inch long.


The larvae began hatching on Nov 29, 1999.
These 3 day old larvae were 4.5 mm / 0.18 inch long.

The male's wingspan is about 67 mm / 2.6 inches.  The female's is about 74 mm / 2.9 inches.
