Speckled Black Cicada (Homoptera Cicadidae Gaeana maculata)
Found at Shau Kei Wan, Hong Kong on April 3, 2002.   This is a fairly common species on the hillsides from April.  They generally fly relatively slowly and, with their coloration and flying style, resemble a large moth.  Their strident song is only moderately noisy.


Body length was about 4 cm / 1.5 inches;
Wingspan was about 9 cm / 3.6 inches.
